Jason Applegate was born and raised in Floyd County, Indiana. He currently resides in New Albany with his wife, Angie Fenton, daughter, Olive, their four dogs – Yoda, Jake, Haven and Major (all rescues) – and their two cats – Wally and Dash (again both rescues) – and a fish named Fish.
Just after Jason’s father, Bill Applegate (a Floyd County native), passed away suddenly in 2002, Jason packed up and took a job selling billboards in Indianapolis and surrounding areas. After flourishing in sales, Jason moved into management, which took him to Albuquerque, New Mexico. After two years there, his then-wife was diagnosed with lymphoma. The couple moved back to New Albany for treatment, and after a valiant fight, she passed away Dec. 1, 2010.
Jason then had to pick up the pieces and could have not been more grateful for his friends and family. The true compassion of Floyd County came out. Instead of moving to accept a job in Denver, Colorado, Jason decided his home was in Floyd County, where he’d been raised. He then partnered with two of his grade school coaches and started up Southern Indiana Paint Supply. They opened two locations and on the opening of his second location, he met his rock and wife, Angie Fenton.
When the business sold, Angie and Jason decided to go for their passion and start up Extol Magazine with the mission of celebrating the people and places of Southern Indiana – and beyond. This venture showed them both how great and beautiful Southern Indiana is and how much the people in the area care about each other and their area. The magazine is now in its third year and they have added Extol Sports, which is a publication about health, fitness and sports.
Over the years, Jason has seen where he can help the community and after much thought, research and introspection, he has decided to run for Floyd County Commissioner in District 1.
Jason has seen areas near and far, growth that has simply just happened and growth that was planned out for the future. He has witnessed how smart growth keeps a community strong and unified, and only wants to see this for Floyd County.
Growth is coming and it must be Smart Growth, so we can protect our heritage, while building a strong community by attracting the right businesses, supporting locally-owned and -operated establishments and by involving the community in our growth.
We have an opportunity to really do something special for Floyd County, and we must act now. By supporting Jason and his campaign, you are supporting the future we need for Floyd County.
Applegate For Office is grateful for your support.
